Welcome to the Granite State News Collaborative’s Data Library
This is a new project that aims to help generate new knowledge for communities and assist reporting at local news organizations by sharing data that the Collaborative has gathered on a wide range of issues in New Hampshire.
Reliable data is critical to communities making informed decisions and lawmakers making good policy, but it’s often hard to find and even harder to understand. Drawing our inspiration from ProPublica and Big Local News, we started the Data Library to address both these issues – first, by sharing the data that we collect during our reporting, and second, by offering it in formats that make it easier to understand.
To help you understand the data and use it for your own projects, every dataset we offer here comes with detailed information about where it’s from, how we processed it (if at all), and how we used it. You’ll see that some of the data we’re sharing is reported directly from official sources, like government documents or open data portals, while other data is the result of our own in-depth analysis. In every case, we’re including copies of the original data and the final results.
This is a brand new initiative from the Collaborative, so we will learn and tweak things as we go. Please check back often.
